Dermatology Services for Pets

Your pet’s skin protects them from harmful germs, toxic substances and extreme weather. This is why it is important to address any skin problems they may develop. Skin issues are very common in pets, but they are also very easy to notice. This means they can be treated early. Our veterinary team can diagnose and treat any abnormalities you notice on your furry friend’s skin.

What types of skin issues do pets usually have?

The skin problems that your pet may experience are similar to human conditions. Skin issues in your pets may stem from environmental factors, their genetics and parasites. We commonly see pets with the following skin conditions:

  1. Alopecia
  2. Yeast Infection
  3. Dermatitis
  4. Acne
  5. Folliculitis
  6. Impetigo

How can I tell if my pet has a skin condition?

Skin abnormalities are alarming and should be checked by a veterinarian immediately. Some signs of a dermatological condition in your pet are:

  • Dandruff
  • Red patches on the skin
  • Bald patches
  • Thinning hair or dull coat
  • Scratching or sniffing
  • Smelly fur

How are skin issues in my pet treated?

To ensure your pet gets the correct treatment we recommend scheduling an appointment at our hospital right away. There are many home remedies online that may cause even more problems for your pet. When your pet comes in with a dermatological issue we perform a thorough examination and run tests to accurately diagnose each case we see. A skin issue may be resolved through a prescribed topical cream or oral medication.
